South West Forum was established in 1999, by voluntary and community organisations themselves, to ensure they had a strong and effective champion at regional level. The Forum aims to be an active and dynamic influence in the region. Its key role is to ensure that the voluntary and community sectors are genuinely engaged in developing and influencing policy. The Forum also has an important networking function – helping groups from across the region to share information, learn from each other and collaborate.

South West Forum’s membership (currently around 200 organisations) includes a wide range of organisations from right across the South West. Almost 100 members are themselves networks, forums or umbrella group. The Forum is constituted as a charitable company limited by guarantee. The Board of Trustee Directors comprise of up to nine people nominated and elected by Forum members, as well as up to a further four who are co-opted by the Board.

  • Opportunity to share achivements and publicise events through newsletter and/or website;
  • Advertise paid and voluntary work opportunities through newsletter and website (Voluntary opportunities advertised free; paid vacancies £40 (members)/ £70 (non-members);
  • Access to information and support for regional VCS needs;
  • Opportunity to influence regional and national policy through events and consultations and through VCS representation on regional bodies;
  • VCS regional representatives are nominated by and elected by SWF members.
